The Stop Online Piracy Act is a proposed bill in the US Senate. The sister bill in the US House is called the PROTECT IP Act. If enacted, these bills will introduce an enforced censorship system that will mean the end of the free (as in freedom) and open internet.

These bills are supported by politicians who do not understand how the internet works. If you are a US citizen, you can take political action by visiting Stop American Censorship.

SOPA and PIPA are being pushed by large corporations. Corporations only understand one language: money. The most effective way to stop SOPA and PIPA may be to vote with your dollars: take your business away from the corporations who support this legislation.

One such company is GoDaddy, which helped draft SOPA/PIPA and was a strong supporter. Perhaps unsurprisingly, SOPA contains an exemption from shutdowns for GoDaddy. After a lot of protest, GoDaddy has officially withdrawn its support from SOPA. However, there is no reason to assume they will not support and help draft the next draconian bill the content industry tries to push through the US congress. In addition, there are plenty of other reasons for not giving money to GoDaddy. If you support freedom and the environment, please consider moving your business away from GoDaddy - they do not deserve it.

Corehost opposes SOPA/PIPA. We actively support free software and environmental causes. We offset CO2 from our operations. Our domain registrations are done through Gandi, which supports free software projects and opposes SOPA/PIPA.
